3 Tools to Better Understand Search Results

The tools I am listing today are not for daily use. I personally play with them once in a while if I want to get a really profound understanding of (top ten) search results.

1. Map out how Google and Yahoo search results are linked to each other: Yahoo vs. Google tool
  • identify “authority” sites that do (similarly) well in both the search engines;
  • get more in-depth competition research.

2. Compare two very close key terms (e.g. singular vs plural, hyphenated vs one-word, etc keywords): Combo Result View

3. Identify “hub sites” (that usually rank in at least 3 of the top 10 ranking sites for your given key term and have some backlinks in common) - Traffic Marks:

  • identify authority sites in your niche;
  • evaluate your competition even deeper;
  • identify site”communities” = those that help each other to rank (and probably belong to one owner);
  • map out the “hub sites” rankings.
